@Ed, There are actually a few really good push mower on the market, the Fiskars Momentum, the Brill Razorcut 38 and the Mascot to name a few. The Scotts is a good mower, sound like he may have gotten a lemon. Since it has a warranty, he should have no problem getting those issues resolved.

I have an older "Scott's Classic Delux" reel mower that I am trying to find out when it was made and get the manual for it. O M scott & Sons maufactured it but the have long left the manufacturing of mowers. It is an awesome mower and I am also looking for a grass catcher to purchase. Any thoughts or links would be appreciated.

If your machine is squeaking, try some WD-40 on the actual blade. This fixed my squeak without any need for tools.

I bought a Task Force 5 years ago and my neighbor thought it looked like a good idea so he replaced his broken gas mower with a Scotts. He used it for about two or three weeks the handle broke off and the plastic gears in the wheels wore out and he had a new gas mower within a month. I took it off his hands on garbage day, screwed the handle back together and tried it out. It just didn't cut grass as well as my POS Task Force that i am still using 5 years now.
somebody needs to make a decent reel mower. I hate gas mowers.

@Vickey S, Can you tell if they won't turn due to them being stuck against the cutting bar or is it stuck due to the wheel. Try backing off the reel from the cutting bar.

I'm having a problem for the first time (I've had my Scott's Classic mower for two years) The blades won't turn. I've taken the wheels off and cleaned off the grass, which I thought was causing the problem. I wiped off some of the grease, also. (It had been squeeking.) Any suggestions?

@Joe

See the part on this page called "Adjusting The Blades."

Adjusting the cutting height itself won't affect how the blades are adjusted. You'll need to adjust how the blades are aligned with the cutter bar. I think you probably just bumped them out of adjustment, and loosening up the adjustment on that side where the blade is a little bit further from the cutter bar will solve the knocking sound issue.

I have one of these mowers, and i ran over a tree root with it, and now it makes a clunking sound every rotation. after looking at it, i noticed that the leading edge of the reels are hitting the edge of the edge of the blade extra hard, and as a result, it is knocking. I tried adjusting the blade height. that stops the clunking sound, but it means that one side of the mower doesnt cut. how do i fix this? i assume the blade is slightly bent. do i have to unbend the blade? should i file it down? what's the best way to go?

thanks,
joe
